Biogarden kids

The Biogarden kids project has been running successfully for over four years.

Background of the project

When children learn at an early age about healthy nutrition and where their food comes from, they develop habits that benefit them for a lifetime.
Research shows that involving children in green educational gardening projects positively influences their vegetable consumption. Experiencing the entire journey from tiny seed to full-grown plant, harvesting fresh vegetables, and eating them together creates genuine excitement for diverse and wholesome food. Moreover, seeing their peers and garden volunteers taste new produce encourages children to try fresh veggies too. Involving parents is an essential part of the journey, ensuring healthy curiosity continues at home.
At our bio garden in Rotterdam, fresh vegetables and fruits are grown naturally and organically. Local community members share their passion and knowledge about healthy gardening and active outdoor living. To pass this enthusiasm on to the next generation, we created the Biogarden kids project together with local schools, focusing especially on young children.

Our programme offers an engaging, hands-on educational experience. We introduce children to organic gardening and the importance of healthy food preparation. After harvesting fresh ingredients right from the garden beds, the kids cook nutritious dishes together with our volunteers and enjoy a wholesome meal side by side.
